FIRE.
A serious outbreak of fire occurred m New Plymouth at eight o’clock last mgnt in the centre of one of the principal blocks in Devon street. At one time it threatened to do a very large amount of damage. The upstairs part of the Imndon Dental Institute and Cottier’s (photographer) shop appeared to be the seat of the fire, and both were thoroughly gutted. The Dresden Piano Company’s premises were under Cottier’s, but all the slock was cleared out, so that the damage was only slight. Cottier’s stock was insured in the New Zealand Office for £IOO. He estimates his loss at £3OO above this. The other insurances are not yet known.
