THE NINTH CONTINGENT.

The Napier Selection Committee have chosen twentyrseven men for the Ninth Contingent, two being taken as emergencies in the event of any of the others selected being unable to go. They are a fine body of men, and their physique will compare favorably with that of any of the previous contingents. The Nelson section of the Ninth Contingent, numbering thirty-six in all, received a good send-off on leaving for Dunedin. They were escorted to the port by volunteers and bluejackets from the warships in port, and by a- large number of people. As they marched on board they were given rousine cheers by the bluejackets. HOKOTKA, February 6. The Hokitika section of the Ninth Contingent left this afternoon by train. They were farewelled by a large gathering. The mayor delivered a short address, amid cheers. WANGANCI, February 6. The final selections of the Wanganui quota (twenty-five) for the Ninth Contin<rent were made last evening. There were 310 applications. Those selected include five returned contingenters, twelve mounted troopers, and six infantry volunteers. Tb*y leave for Auckland on Tuesday. WELLINGTON, February 6. The list of applications for the Wellington section of the Ninth Contingent closed with a total of 804 for 129 places. The Government received something like 500 applications for commissions in the Ninth. LOCAL NOTES. Fully seventy men are in camp at Forbury PaTk. The riding and shooting tests were continued to-day, and until they have been completed no final selection will, of course, be made.
