PERSONAL.
Yesterday afternoon, at the close of the handwork classes for country teachers, presentations wero made by the class to each of the instructors. these were in the form of a silver-mounted purse to Miss Hooper (who has been instructing the class in kindergarten work), and a silver-mounted pipe and tobacco pouch to Mr Wall and Mr Simmonds (who have been instructing the class in plasticcne modtlling and cardboard work). Mr Gloss made the presentations on behalf of the country teachers attending the class. Miss Hooper, Mr Wall, and Mr Simmonds suitably replied. A Wellington message states that Bro. Urban, at present conducting the annual retreat of the Marist Brothers in Wellington, has been appointed Provincial of the Order of Australasia, in succession to Bro. John, who recently became assistant-general. A social gathering will be held in the upper schoolroom of the Hanover street Baptist Church to-morrow evening to bid farewell to the Rev. George Wainwright and his wife and family, who are leaving for England on Sunday" week in the Grosser Kurfurst, which leaves Melbourne early next month. The Rev. J. J. Dokc, late pastor of the Oxford terrace Baptist Church, Christchureh, will journey homeward with his wife and family by the same steamer. Mr F. L. Seagar," of the Alhambra Theatre, is severing his connection with Mr Dix's business on Saturday. Since nis advent here some twelve months back a-5 Dunedin manager of Mr Dix's Gaiety Company. Mr Seagar has marie many friends, who will miss his presence in front of the house. He is the senior of the Gaiecy managers in Mr Dix's employ, and after a connection with that gentleman of nearly two years leaves now, with the best wishes of all, to enter business on his own account.
