WELLINGTON, September 28. SLUDGE CHANNELS. Messrs Green, M'Gibbon, and Bowler, of Gore, will interview the Minister of Mines this afternoon, and request that the Charlton and Waimumu Rivers be declared sludge channels, or that provision be made for having an artificial channel constructed to tarry off the sludge and water. THE ROYAL VISIT. The general expenses of the Royal visit included: Railway fares and freights to Rotorua, £3,700; steamer fares and freights, £584; food and camp attendance, £2,971; travelling expenses, £176; medals for school children, £1,157; parliamentary reception (including luncheons and dinners), £1,848. PETITIONS. Mr J. A. Millar yesterday presented 2 petition from Messrs John Peterson and Co. and fifty-eight other Dunedin grocers that the Bell tea coupon system be not legislated against; also one from A. S. Day and forty-two other barmaids to be exempted from the operations of the Shops and Offices Bill.
