SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.
CHRISTCHURCH, September 26. A private cable from England announces the death of Mrs Humphreys, the wife of a well-known Christchurch merchant, a partner in the firm of Fletcher and Humphreys. A steady and soaking rain has been falling the greater part of the night, and is still coming down. It is pretty general, and will do an incalculable amount of good in the country districts. Mr Stead's three-year-old colt Knight Errant has left for the North to fulfil his engagement in the Wanganni Guineas. The son of St. Leger and Forma has never yet raced.
