HARBOR BOARD REPORTS

The following are the main clauses in the engineer's report, to be presented at tomorrow afternoon's meeting of the Otago Harbor Board:— The installation of the electric light 'contract on dredge 222 having been completed, a commencement was made on the Ist of the month to work two shifts of eight hours each per day, under Mr R. Douglas as dredge-master and chief engineer; Captain Munro acting as sailing-master. The electric light is working well, and good progress is being made with the dredging. The dredging to give access to the Lower Jetty street berth is completed, and 222 is now taking a cut down the Victoria wharf to have this done before the pile-driving of th» wharf extension and widening is commenced The Vulcan continues to do good work, pumping the whole of 222's dredgings on to the reclamation by St Andrew street. A large area at the upper end is either completed or nearing formation height; and the retaining wall by Morgan's Baths is being raised so as to enable the lower area to be made up. The Priestraan grab is still at work at the lower Jetty street, wharf clearing oat the bench not, reached by 222, and as «oon as tnfe is completed this fine berth will be available. During the month of August about 21,300 cubic yards were dredged and pumped into the reclamation, at a combined cost of about 9|d per cubic yard; the Priestman grab also lifting and discharging from punts about 1,400 cubic yards.
