CRIMINAL SESSIONS.
At the Supreme Court, Napier, yesterday, George Woodward, late clerk to the Weber Road Board, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing the sum of £ls ss, the property of the. Board, and was remanded for the report of the probation officer. William Higgins, charged with assaulting Cornelius Brosnahan and stealing from him a cheque and other articles, was found not guiltv. A charge was preferred against Charles John Hardy of having, in June, 1899, when acting as assistant to his wife' who was matron of the Children’s Home! indecently' assaulted a girl named Jessie M'Lean, an inmate of that institution, who was under the age of sixteen years; but after hearing the evidence of the girl M'Lean and another girl the case was, by consent, withdrawn without the defence being called upon.
