A MINING ACTION. Mr E. H Carew, S.M., was engaged for the most part of to-day hearing evidence in a mini"2 action between Mouat' and Wale-; (p'aihtiffs) and the Belmont Gold Dred"injr Company (defendants). The claim was" for £l3l 16s 6d for professional services rendered. The statement of c'aim set out that on the 23rd of June, 1900, the plaintiffs were engaged bv the defendants to prepare plans and specifications for a dredge and plant on the company's property on the Waiau River, in Southland, and the defendants agreed tn pay them a sum equal to 5 per cent, of the en- t of the dredge and plant (which cost £3 500) and travelling expends (whirh amounted to £ T 6 2s 6dj. & Tha defendants claimed that the work was done incompetently and nedigentlv. Mr Adams appeared for plaintiffs, and Mr Pavne for the defendants. The case was still proceeding when we went to press.
