The new system comes into force after the next annual examination. > .. WELLINGTON, September 18. In the Divorce Court the Chief Justice gTanted a decree nisi for a dissolution of marriage in the case "of Mary Paris v.- Andrew Paris. ' GISBORNE, September 18. Two young men, Crimmins and Needham, have been committed for trial on a charge of stealing £75 from a man when he was under the influence of liquor. The Borough Council recently decided to submit to tho ratepayers a water and drainage scheme, costing £75,000, but before doing so they endeavered to ascertain from the Government whether the money could be obtained at 3£ per cent, under the terms of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act. A telegram has been received from tie Hon. J. Carroll stating: —" I regret to inform you that the Colonial Treasurer has notified me to-day that he cannot entertain the proposal for a loan of such magnitude to one local authority. The Finance Committee have been instructed to ascertain at what rate the money can be obtained, and what amount the Government are prepared to lend."
