THE CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.
The election for the Christchurch seat on June 18 passed off very quietly. The polling was small, only 9,707 votes being cast out of 17,355 on the roll. It was generally anticipated that the contest between Messrs G/J, Smith and Charles Tavlor would ne close, and that Mr TurnbmTs support of denominational grants would mean loss of ground td him. The totals are:— G. J. Smith- ■..;■"' ... ... 3,912 Charles Taylor 3,418 A. H. Turnbull ... ... ... 2,377
