GORE SUMMER MEETING. [Special to the Stab.] The rammer meeting of the Gore Racing Glub, "which began yesterday, "was favored by fine weather. Just before the start of the meeting news was received of the death of the Queen. Flags were flown half-mast as a token of respect, but it was decided to proceed with the day’s programme. The racing was very good, but' much of the promised interest in the sport was lost by the small fields for the Gore Cup, Hurdle Race, and Flying Handicap. A great surprise was created by the downfall of Jupiter in the principal event. Messrs Mason and Roberts had charge of the totalisator, which was limited to £1 tickets, and passed through their hands the sum of £2,335, compared with £2,546 for the corresponding day of last year. Burlston, who was made a hot favorite, was leading when passing the post the final time, having taken command from Garryowcn, and although challenged by Thomdean and Governor won easily; about a length between second and third. A meeting of the stewards was held during the afternoon, when it was decided to post” pone the second day’s racing until Friday in consequence of the death of Her Majesty. Although the news was received before the races commenced, it was found impracticable to postpone the first day’s racing, as per request of the Hon. J. G. Ward.
