The barque Kinclunc, which’ sailed into Tiroaru Harbor on Monday—the tug not being available—is said to be the largest vessd that has been sailed into that port. At Tuesday’s meeting of the Timaru Harbor Board a letter was received from (Messrs Friedlander Bros, with reference to making Timaru a port of registry, and stating that the writers frequently found owners of vessels stipulating “Timaru or Oamam excepted,” or asking higher freights if the option of loading there was given. The total receipts of the Board for the past year had been £22,859, irrespective of the harbor vote of £6,000. The year closed with £458 to the credit of the general account, and £3,330 had been placed to the credit of the reserve fund. Many improvements to the Board’s property had been effected, and new stores.have been erected out of the general fund. An extraordinary scene was witnessed recently when the new torpedo-boat destroyer Lee ran aground on the Maplin Sands whilst undergoing her steam trial. When she ran aground, the Lee literally ploughed up the sands, causing the bow of the vessel to rise up, whilst the stern became embedded up to the shaft. She was in imminent peril of falling on her side, and the ship’s company hastily left the deck, and alighting upon the sands shored her up. The vessel was afterwards got off and towed to Chatham.

Advices from New York intimate that the barque Hiram Emery sailed from there on November 6 for Auckland direct, and on discharge inll load back with kauri gum, etc.

Mr Logan, sen., of Auckland, has got the keel and stern posts and all the diagonal work ready for the new steam launch for the Auckland Harbor Board. She is to be run by an American 84 horse-power oil engine. The boat is built on an entirely new principle. She is to have no protruding keel, and consequently will have no dead water to drag after her. It is expected that she will prove the fastest craft of her kind in the colour.

At Timaru the Corinna pnt out 230,000 ft of timber and 200 tons of coal. About 600 tons of coke and coal were discharged at Port Chalmers, and the red-funnel boat came up to Dunedin this morning and berthed at the Rattray street wharf to land 200 tons of coal and coke and 30 tons of wool, hides, etc. She returns to the West Coast via. Northern ports this evening with a quantity of general cargo. Transhipments ex Cornwall atid other Home steamers at Australia, are coming to hand by the Waihora, which is due in Dunedin from Sydney via Lyttelton on Saturday.

Messrs Neill and Co. are the local agents of the ship Invercargill, which is now discharging original cargo from Liverpool at Wellington. The vessel has 1,041 tons cargo for this port, and,she is expected to leave Wellington about the end of next week. Camara will probably be the Invercargill’s loading port for Heme. Information has been received by the Union Company to the effect that the 8.1. steamer Ikhona will sail from Lyttelton for Dunedin on Saturday. Dunedin is to be her terminal port in the colony, but her subsequent movements are yet uncertain. Haying completed repairs to her boiler, the Moana got under way from Port Chalmers for Melbourne via the Bluff and Hobart at six o’clock this morning.

THE ISLAND TRADE. For the convenience of fruit shippers in the Islands, in order to fit in with the running of the steamers of the A..U.S.N. Company between the Islands, the Union Steam Ship Company have made the following alterations in the running of their steamers : The Manapouri will be pushed through on her next trip from Sydney, Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga, and is timed to reach Auckland on February 13, and will bo despatched for the same ports again on the 16th, reaching Sydney on A larch 8, and leaving again. on the 15th. The Taviuni, which left for Fiji on Wednesday, is expected back at Auckland about the 30th insL, and on discharge proceeds to AVcllington, and returns to Auckland direct, and leaves for Fiji again on February t. The Rotokino, which left Auckland on Tuesday for Tonga., Samoa, Fiji, and Sydnej', takes up the place of the Hauroto, which is to proceed to Port Chalmers for general overhaul in the meantime.' The latter steamer is timed to leave Auckland for the Islands and Sydpey on March 13.
