LATE MINING.

9 Mr R v T. Wheeler informs us that the "engineer of Shepherd" Creek dredge reports having received a wire to the effect that a satisfactory trial of the dredge, was made today, and that the dredge had been handed over to the dredge-master. ThJ dredge-master of the Miller's Flat Electric Dredging Company reports that in opening out his paddock he has washed up 15oz 4dwt 6gr gold, a. good portion of the ■work being through old tailings. He is now in virgin ground, and he reports the "wash to be looking splendid. " The secretary of the Skippers Sluicing Company reports that if all goes well there will be a wash-up about the end of this month. The bottom has been reached, and the existence of a considerable body of wash giving good prospects is now being operated upon. The secretary of the Perrett's Junction Lead Gold Dredging Company reports that the results of the recent prospecting operations were of a satisfactory character, but that the directors have decided to put down another bore and secure additional information on one or two points before taking steps..to order a dredge. When the further reports arc to hand the' shareholders will be placed in possession of all the facts known in regard to the claim. Twentytaiine Otago ar.d Southland dredges reported returns for the week ended January 19, the total return being 6170z 19dwt lS^r.' The secretary of the Arrow Junction Gold Dredging Company advises us that he has received the following report, dated the 17th:—"Winch arrived yesterday; got it on board; busy erecting to-day." Tables finished; buckets all on. Busy giving evervthing a finishing touch." We understand that the result of the retorting of the last two parcels of amalgam on the Leviathan dredge is 570z.
