ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT GREEN ISLAND.
Hector M'Caughan, a dairy fanner, residing -with his family in the Brighton road, at Green Island, attempted to commit suicide early yesterday morning by hanging himself in his cow byre by the neck. About halfpast three in the morning his wife missed him, and hearing some noise in the cow shed went out to look. She found her husband hanging by a rope round his neck. Mrs M'Caughan called a, man who was living on the premises, and the latter cut the unfortunate farmer down. Dr Will was at once summoned. He found the man. alive, but insensible, and in a precarious state, in which he has remained ever since. The latest reports state that it has been found necessary to summon a second doctor. Mr M'Caughan had been depressed .in spirits of late, and had been frequently heard talking about suicide. He isan old and well-known resident in the district.
