A letter has been received from H. F. Orlong,. a New Zealander, who is laboring as a missionary at Mallikollo. He states that the French claim the whole of South Mallikollo. and the small islands on that coast, including the island where Forlong is settled. Two agents of the French Trading Company ordered Forlong to leave. He declined. Later on, and during his absence, the agents returned with twelve armed Natives, broke open his hut, and removed much of Forlong's effects. They also left a warning that 3f he had not cleared out before January Bth they would come book and kick up a row.

Forlong's letter records the death from fever of Mr« M'Kenzie, formerly of Dunedin, and stationed with her i.usbaad at Malliknllo.
