Obituary : Duke. De Broglie, the eminent French publicist; aged eighty. [Broglie (Charles Jacques Victor Albert, Due De), French ex-Minister, was bom. in Paris on June 15. 1821, and was educated in the University of Paris. Ho first entered the Diplomatic Service, and was Secretary of the French Embassies in' Madrid and Rome prior to the Revolution of 1848; Le then retired into private life until 1871, Tv-hen he was elected a Deputy. For some time he was French Ambassador in London. In 1873 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Council; l.e was defeated, and resinned, with his Ministry, in 1874. In 1877 he succeeded M. Jules Simon as President of the Council of Ministers, Keeper of the Seals, and Minister of Justice, but he resigned these posts in the same year. Since then he took no active part in politics. He was elected a member of the French Academy in 1862. He wrote 'Memoires de Talleyrand' vols. 1 to 4, 1891, and other works.]
