The rain ceased this morning, and the weather was glorious for the postponed combined Mafeking day and the Queen’s Birthday celebrations. The streets were paoked night and day, and there was a repetition of the previous Saturday’s outbdrsfc of enthusiasm. A review was hold at the barracks. Massed bands gave a patriotic programme in the latter place and in Queen’s square. Immense crowds cheered the Queen and Major-general Baden-Powell. The bands subsequently paraded the streets. There was great enthusiasm, and a lavish display of bunting in the city and harbor. The national colors were universally worn. At night the Queen’s sqpare, Post Office, Town Hall, banks, newspaper offices, and a number of business places wbre brilliantly illuminated, some designs of Major-general Baden-Powell and Mafeking being much in evidence, and most effective. BROKEN HILL, May 27. The Mafeking Committee have decided to present General Baden-Powell with a laurel wreath made from silver raised in the Barrier mine. A SERIOUS RIOT. LONDON, May 27. During the celebration at 'Jersey in honor ot the relief of Mafeking a French shopkeeper at Heliers provoked a riot. The wmdows of the shops in French street were wrecked, and the military had to be called out. The riot continuing, they charged with fixed bayonets. Thirty arrests were made, and the ringleaders were imprisoned without the option of a fine. MESSAGE FROM BADEN-POWELL. THE QUEENSLANDERS’ RECORD MARCH. BRISBANE, May 28. The Premier hits received a cable from Major-general Baden-Powell announcing the relief of Mafeking. The general says: “ Most grateful for the invaluable assistance rendered by the Queenslanders, under Captain Kelly, who made a record march through Rhodesia to help us.”
