THE N.Z. ALLIANCE.

• *' The Alliance decided to hold their next Conference in Palmerston North, in May 1901. The Rev. J. T. Willis, Anglican minister, was elected president. The annual meetings of the Alliance are to be peripatetic, and the next will be held in Auckland at a dale to be fixed by ;he Executive. On the question of the employment of agents the following resolution was passed : “That this meeting endorse the opinion of the Canterbury Prohibition Council that the work of the Alliance carf only be efficiently done by an experienced secretary and two organising agents. They believe, too, that if possible one of the agents should be a lady. Having regard, however, to the present'financial position of the Asmtiation and consequent responsibility resting upon the Executive, they cannot do more at the present juncture than urge upon the incoming Executive to give effect to the opinion expressed In the Canterbury resolution at the earliest possible date. It was also resolved that this Convention, realising the importance of utilising the full strength of the Prohibition vote to advance political interests, remit te consideration to a committee to report at the next annual meeting ; also, that with a view to securing a full vote of the people, and deeming a better system of registration necessary, a committee be appointed to consider the question of electoral, right as a means to this end.
