There will be the usual change of programme at the Alhambra Theatre to-night, and the Leslie brothers will introduce a sketch entitled ‘Fun in a Bar-room.’

“ J.R.” writes to us : —“ I would just like to call your attention to this fact: that-in the general display of bunting to-day, including public offices, leading business houses, and the American and German Consulates, no display is made on the flagpole at the French Consular Agency. Is this neglect studied or accidental ? It is somewhat significant, and requires explanation.”

A five-roomed wooden house situate in Gordon street, South Dunedin, was totally destroyed by fire (which waa supposed to have originated from a defective chimney) at an early hour this morning. The house was occupied by Mr Balligan, railway signal man, and owned by Mr M’Kenzie, of Mornington. The brigade were early on the scene, but owing to a difficulty in uncovering the water plug they were considerably Jo ayed. Mr Baliigan only saved a few articles of furniture. The latter waa insured for £SO in the Australian Alliance, but Mr Halligan reckons his loss will be another £SO. It is not yet known whether the house was insu ed.
