OTAGO S.S. UNION EXHIBITION.

I TO THE EDITOR. , i Sir,—Your correspondent "A.8.C." thanks the secretary of above Union for promise of balance-sheet, and forthwith proceeds to prejudge the case. So much for "A.B.C.'s" taste. * But I would like to know, sir, what concern " the public who provide the funds " have in the matter after they have been provided with the thing they, went for—viz., a full shilling's worth. We have nautical festivals, football and cricket matches, tournaments of various kinds, besides theatricals and concerts galore, for all of which the public provide the funds. I Why does not " A.8.C." demand balancesheets for these ? How much would the public ! have done, I wonder, had the Exhibition re- ' suited in a loss? It looks rather like as if " A.8.C." had a pitiful little grudge against some of the Exhibition officials; in any case (while I have no connection whatever with the S.S. Union), I think "A.8.C." may possess his soul in patience. Those who had charge of the Exhibition will doubtless be able to show him and "the public who provided the funds" that, while the expenses were heavy, they were no heavier than were' absolutely necessary.—l am, etc., C.B.A. ; Dunedin, April 7.
