SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

I The monthly meeting of the Kensington School Committee wag held last night, when . the head-master reported that the attendance ; during the past month had been slightly affected by the prevailing epidemic. ! At the meeting of the North-east Valley , Committee it was reported that the number on the roll was 514, and the largest attendance on any half-day was—Boys 245, girls 228; total, 473. Miss M'Culloch, the new pupil-teacher, had entered upon her duties. The Secretary of the North-east Valley Tennis Club wrote thanking the Committee for the use of the school courts, and forwarded £l, to be devoted to any fnn-I U-e Committee might think best. It was reported that the annual picnic, held at Warrington, had been eminently successful. The meeting of the George street Committee was held on Monday, when it was decided to place the balance of the goods left over from the bazaar held in aid of the gym- ' nasium in the hands of the ladies who took I part in the affair, for disposal. The Chairj man reported that the contract for the gymnasium had been started.

The Mornington Committee decided to effect an insurance on the gymnasium building, which has just been erected at a cost of £326 14s. As the Committee are considerably short of the amount needed to defray the expenditure, it was unanimously agreed that I the opening of the gymnasium be celebrated J by a ball to be given on Friday, the ,21st of April, and that .the charge for single tickets be ss, double tickets 7s 6d, and that < the refreshments be provided free. The' ! Head-master reported that the average attendance last month was 464, and the number on the roll 513. It was decided that the Easter holidays should be from Good ; Friday to Easter Tuesday, inclusive. The ; balance-sheet of the school penny bank, to- ; gether with the report of the auditors, was | laid on the table. A hearty vote of thanks i was passed to the treasurer for his labors Lduring the year. The balance-sheet of the 'school picnic was presented, and a vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mr Moody and to the teachers for their services in con--1 nection therewith.

The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers District High School Committee was held yesterday evening. In the absence of Mr John Cook, Mr J. Morgan was appointed chairman. Accounts amounting to £43 Os lid were passed for payment, and a special committee was appointed to arrange a concert in aid of the school funds. The rector reported the number on the roll as 527, and the average attendance for the quarter as 441. The prevalence of measles had seriously interfered with the attendance. The Visiting Committee reported everything in connection with the school in first-class order. They had consulted Dr Cunninghame (health officer), along with the whole of the Committee, re the measles epidemic, and were advised to close the school for the present, but were in hopes it would resume on the 20th inst.
