SHOOTING.
The shooting members of the Highland RtfLs held a practice match at Pelichet B*j on Saturday, but the scoring was not by any means brilliant. The ranges were 200 (kneeling) and 500 yards (any position), ten shots, and the principal scores were : Lieutenant Dempster 73, Private W. M'Kinlay 73, Captain Stoneham 64. On the Dunedin Club’s rifU range, Holyrood, the second competition for Mr A. J. Shaw’s trophy was fired. A variable light and puzzling wind upset calculations. The distances were 200, 300, and 500 yards, s ven shots, and the principal scores were ; Mr Armstrong 88, Mr Greenslade (including 6 ooints handicap) 87, Mr Montgomery 82, U- Lyders 79, Mr Speight 77. The fourth and final competition for prizas presented to the Kaitangata Rifles was fired off on Saturday afternoon. In the aggregates Volunteer James Smith (222) takes Dr Fitzgerald’s prize, andVounteer Fraser (216) secures the B-v B. Faiimaid’e money prize. The Dutedin Naval Artillery held a prac* tice match at Pelichet Bay. Sides weie ohosen by Lieutenant-commander Allen and Lieutenant Dunlop, Conditions : Ten shots as 300 and 500 yards. Scores: Lieutenant commander Allen’s team, 555 (Lieutenant Allen 69, P. O Valentine 65, P.O. Woolletfc 65); Lieutenant Dunlop’s team, 447 (Gunner M'Donald 71, Lieutenant Dunlop 68, Gunner Bain 52).
