ST. CLAIR PROTECTIVE WORKS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have recently been asked by seven | if His Worship the Mayor was correct in ihe assertions which he has reiterated from time to time in effect that the scheme propost d by me for the protection of gt. Clair would destroy the beach. Hitherto 1 have not taken the trouble to refute the mayoi’s assumptions, but as the question of protecting the beach is to come again before the public I shall feel obliged if you will grant me space to do so now. The effect of proposed work would be to raise the level of the beach, and, except daring periods of or immediately following heavy seas from the S. W., the groynes would be covered with sand, and the beach as suitable for recreation as at present,—l am, etc., H. Reynolds Dunedin, November IQ.
