THE OCEAN BEACH DOMAIN POLL.
THE SCHEME REJECTED. As we anticipated last evening, the ratepayers in the City and surrounding boroughs threw out the Ocean Beach Domain Board's proposal. At 7.15 p.m. all the returns were in, and on investigation they showed that the proposal had been rejected by 258 voles. Very little interest was taken in the poll, as will be seen when it is stated that although about 6,000 ratepayers," haviDg nearly 10,000 votes, were entitled to vote, only 1,830 votes were cast at the poll. Of this number 1,033 votes were recorded against the proposal to levy a rate, and 775 in favor of it, there being 28 informal votes. The only places in which a ma jo.'ity of votes were recorded in tuvor of the proposal were the Boroughs of Caversham, South Dunedin, and St. Kilda.
In the City the number of ratepayers on the roll is approximately 2,200, with 4,487 votes ; in Caversham 690 ratepayers, with 947 votes; in Mornington 640 ratepayers, with 751 votes ; in Roslyn 828 ratepayers, with 1,022 votes; in Maori Hill 314 ratepayers, with 400 votes; in North-east Valley 730 ratepayers, with 1,100 votes.
