LEITH STREET CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.
At last evening’s meeting of this church the tea was under the presidency of the ladies o! the congregation. The public meeting was presided over by the pastor, the Bev. William Fell. The annual report was read by the secretary (Mr R. A. Cleland). It stated that the church had continued to make substantial progress both In members and financially during the past year, this being chiefly owing to the energy of the pastor. Fueling reference was made to the death of Mrs Baird, an old and highlyrespected member. The report further stated that the choir, under the leadership of Mr Pellelt, with Miss Bennett as organist, had carried out the musical portion of the services with efficiency; that the ladits , of the congregation had formed a sewing society which was doing good work; li.afc the Literary and Debating Society Imd been well supported by the lady men here ; that the Sunday school membership reached 105, with an average attendance of about sixty-five ; that a Christian Band had been formed and was well attended ; and that the church property was valued at £7OO, there being no liabilities. Stirring addresses were given by the Rev. Messrs Hinton and Heighway on church life and work. Mrs Morrison sang with tasto 1 The- flight of ages,’ and in response to an encore gave 1 We’d better bide a wee.’ Messrs Bowden and Collett also sang. The former gave * Queen of Angels,’ and the latter * The fisherman and his child.’ Miss Bennett played the accompaniments. The choir, under the leadership of Mr Pellett, sang several anthems, which added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. Mr Cleland proposed a comprehensive vote of thanks to speakers, singers, etc., which was carried by acclamation.
