MR E. B. CARGILL AND THE DOMAIN BOARD.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sie, —Mr Cargill presumes overmuch on the kindly allowance made for him by many, and his manifesto tempts one to reply to it a* one would reply to lhe average man. It is ijo use doiDg tha', because the chairman t.,i J:i- Dnrnvn Board is absolutely impervious ;< .■rilicism, aud is pachydermatous. I havn a mufth bigger Btake in this matter than Mr Cargill, and I do not care a fig what engineer is chosen to do the work. iwant it done, and well done. I believe the Domain Board as constituted to be so carried away by personal feeling and personal interest that whatever judicial ability they ever possessed is a minus quantity, and I would not trust them with £lO of public money to kerb a gutter with. I trust that the boroughs will veto any rate until after next November, when surely the constitution of the Board will be altered. To do otherwise would be to risk a waste of good money, and, personally, although I am a large property-owner in St. Clair, I will vote against any rate to be expended under the present conditions.
It is a great pltv that there is not a public meeting called of the South Dunedin, St. Kilda, and Oaversham burgesses to discusthia question. The one bright ipot in the ttaeeemly business has been the outspoken ftttitnde of the Press—an attitude that has been commended by all classes of the community.—l am, etc, Propektv. St. Clair, September 5
