THE CUBAN CONFLICT.

The dogs of war let boldly loose, for not unrighteous cause, To save fair, ruined Cuba from the cruel Spaniard's claws. Oppression must be firmly checked, the Islanders relieved; We doubt not righteous victory will quickly be achieved. When Anglo-Saxon brothers fight against their ancient foes, The past of history will add new vigor to their blows; Since British sailors promptly swept the Armada from the seas, Our Union Jack has floated high unconquered on the breeze. And now tho frceborn Stars and Stripes will emulate the men Who once proud Spaniards humbled low, the same blood now aa then. Succoss attend their ships and arma, they represent the race. Alas I that so much blood mu6t flow to save tho Spaniard's " face." Let right prevail, the slave go free, prepare the fun'ral pall, The Power that on oppression builds Is hastening to its fall. —J. A., in the ' New Zealand Times.'
