CRICKET.

A meeting of the Committee of the Otago Cricket Association was held on Thursday evening, and attended by Messrs L. C. Gooch (in the chair), James Allan, D. Smyth, W. H. Skitch, A. Restieaux, and W. Maclean (hon. sec). The dates for the interprovincial match with Southland, to be played in Dunedio, were fixed for Thursday and Friday, 24th and 25th of March, provided that the Southland Association assent. Mr R. D. Spraggon tendered his resignation as a member of the Selection Committee on account of his having been transferred to Wellington. Mr Skitch was appointed to fill the vacanoy, and a motion was passed thanking Mr Spraggon for his services. The secretary intimated that the sum of £ll 12j had been collected on account of the Olivier memorial fund, and that the amount would be handed over to the Canterbury Cricket Association, who had started the movement. Mr F. C. Raphael, the secretary of the Canterbury Cricket Association, was appointed one of Otago's delegates to the New Zealand Cricket Council, vice Mr F. C. Stephenson, who had been removed to Wellington. A presentation is to be made at Christchurch to-night to A. E. Ridley in recognition of his fine batting in the second innings of the Canterbury-Otago match. Mr Henniker Heaton, M.P., is now on his way homeward from Australia, having completed most of arrangements for the pro? posed parliamentary cricketing tour (says a London paper). Each colony desired the test match to be played in its capital. The problem has been solved by a provisional agreement to play three test matches—one in Sydney, one in Melbourne, and one in Adelaide. Applications for matches have been made by Queensland, Tasmania, and Western Australia, and pressing invitations received from New Zealand, but time will preclude compliance. Even the Governor of Ceylon has caught the infection, and will head a team against the parliamentarians. The next Australian Eleven for England will probably leave in March, 1899. A. C. Maclaren, of Stoddart's team, is to be married this month to Miss Power, daughter of Mr Herbert Power, well known ' in Victorian racing circles. Both Maclaren and Raoji regard Noble as the best of the Australian bowlers.
