Once in the straight Day Star, Epaulet, and Lord Hosslyn were in difficulties, and Waiuku and St. Paul showed the way to the distance post in front of Leda and Target. Then the whips were drawn on all tiie leaders, and St. Paul, gradually drawing out, went on and won by a couple of lengths from Waiuku, with Leda, half a length away, third; Target fourth, Black and Red fifth, Skirmisher sixth, Day Star seventh, and Chaos last.
