Mr J. Mill, J.P., presided at the Port Chalmerß Police Court this morning, and fined David Greig 6s'for allowing oowa to trespass on the Deborah Bay ri?ad.

The Hon. J. G. Ward intends to make application at to-morrow's sitting of the District Court at Inveroargilt .for his discharge, which, it is understood, will be opposed. The liquidators will be repre* sentcd by Mr Solomon, and the bankrupt by Mr F. R. Chapman. At this morning's meeting of the Presbyterian Synod the Moderator intimated that the Free Church of Scotland had determine*!, to send out a deputation to Otago on tfite' occasion of the jubilee of the church in March next. The announcement was received with applause. At the monthly meeting of the Dock Trust yesterday (Mr A. Thomson in the chair) the request of Messrs A. and T. Burt' for permission to sublet a portion of their leased premises to the Government engineer was declined. It was reported that the credit balance at the Bank stood at £425 14s 63. The annual meeting of the Caveraham Volunteer Fire Brigade was held on Monday, Lieutenant Gilbert in the chair. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year :—J. Outram,captain (re-elected); J. Strang and S. Gilbert, lieutenants; G. Russell, foreman and treasurer; A. Mundie, secretary; J. Outram and .W. Foster, auditors. The consideration of the Wyndham case occupied the Presbyterian Synod throughout yesterday afternoon's sederunt and until twelve o'clock at night, when, on the motion of the Rev. Mr Stobo, seconded by the Rev. Mr Hewitson, the following resolution was adopted:—" That the Presbytery of Mataura be instructed, at their next ordinary meeting, to accept the resignation of the memorialist office-bearers of the congregation of Wyndham, and urge upon Mr Smellie to exhibit a conciliatory spirit towards all parties connected with the congregation, and regret that through an error of judgment he made an intimation that might be misunderstood." The monthly meeting of the Union street School Committee la«fc night was presided over by Mr G. Lawrence (chairman). The head-master reported that the average attendance for the month was 494 (the decrease being due to the bad weather), and that the savings bank fund now amounted to £lO3 10s. It was decided to close the school for the Christmas holidays on Thursday, December 10", and to resume on Monday, January 31. A committee was appointed to arrange a gymnastic display by the pupils and invite the parents thereto. It was reported that the filters had got out of order, and it was decided to ask the Board to take immediate steps, j n view of the approach of warm weather, to provide a sufficient and wholesome supply of drinkine water. 5 t At a meeting la3t night of the Political Workers' Committee the resignation of Mr Al y6 T 8 x? 8 vice -P resit ient was accepted, and Mr J. Nagle appointed to the vacancy. The Committee endorsed the principles of the Master and Apprentice and Eight Hours Bills, and it wa3 decided to ask tho Premier to bring all Civil servants under the provisions of the last-mentioned measure. Notice of motion was given by Mr Hood—" That the Committee invite the co-operation of unaffiliated unions and delegates from all Liberal political associations to discuss the revision of the platform." A letter of congratulation was ordered to be sent to the Hon. J. G. on the decision of the Appeal Court confirming his election, aud thanking him for his recent address. At All Saints' Schoolroom last night a large audience assembled to witness the performance of the kinderspiel ' Don Quixote' by the children of St. Martin's Church. The piece, when performed last month in connection with the Ladieb' Guild of St. Martin's, was such a pronounced success that it was decided to repeat it. The cast was as follows .--Don Quixote, Master P. 0 Shea; Sancho, Master R. Mooro; Lady of the Lea, Miss Harvey; Dame Dnrden, Miss M. Steele ; Rantin' Rovin' Robin, Master H. Harvey; Dolly Dimple, Miss E. Millward ; Willio Wimple, Master A. Brown; lorn Tug, Master R. Green ; Handy Andy, Master \V. Drake; Merry Maids, Misses Umbers, H. Clark, and L. Smith. The performers also included soldiers, sailors, laboring men, and maids. The piece went merrily from start to finish, the bright singing and acting being of a most enjoyable land, and the highest praise is due to Mrs btrain for the excellent training she had given the children. A vocal and instrumental concert followed, and proved a success. The ladies and gentlemen who took part in the latter were—Mesdaraes Strain and Christie, Misses Grace Mayhew (recitation), Crawford, Drake, and Hopcraft, Messrs E. Towsey, Robinson, R. Smith, and Drake. Misa Wright was accompanist at the kinder-spiel, while Mr E. Towsey acted in that capacity at the concert. The Caledonian Bowling Olub open tbe season on Saturday. The Otago Art Society's annual exhibition of pictures will be opened to-morrow ovenins; in the Choral Hall. - A trade* demonstration in connection with the engineers' look-out will he held on Saturday.
