GIFFEN'S RETIREMENT,

At the last meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council a letter under date October 5 wa9. received from r Major Warclill, who l said that it was only then that he was in a position to say positively that Stoddart's teatn would be unable to visit New Zealand; Time was the -only disturbing element, as the team would return' the way they came, placing in Wert Australia on the way back.
