BRIEF MENTION.
Heavy floods have occurred in the Waipa River and its tributaries, as well as in the Waikato, and the Thames Valley has aUo suffered by floods. The export of coal from Greymouth last week was 1,555 tons, and of timber 27,783 ft, and 2,500 sleepers were also sent out. Westport's export of coal last week was 4,121 tons 178Wt, the We3tport Coal Company contributing 3,465 tons 2owt, and the Cardiff Company 656 tons 15cwt. Hospital returns for the past week : Patients remaining from the previous week, 106 ; admitted, 18; discharged, 16. George Nicolldied in the institution during the past week, and the total uumber remaining is 107.
