James Wray, the Australian sculler, who in June last challenged the world to a contest over the Tyne course for tho sculliog championship, now claims the 'Sportsman's' cup, the challenge nothaving been accepted. Tho Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met at Chrisichurch on Wednesday, when correspondence was read from Wellington as to Patrick's non-inclu-sion in the team to go to Sydney. Mr Grierson explained that funds were not very plentiful, and it had not been considered advisable to send Patrick, who could only compete in one event, which Holder could also run in.
