MUNICIPAL.

North-east Valley.— Last night’s meeting of this Council was attended by Crs Russell (in the chair), Macandrew, Evans, Seoones, Anderson, Murray, Mariacber, and Rishworth. The Mayor sent an apology.— The Finance Committee reported that the overdraft stood at £895 19s Id, being £404 0s Hi beneath the statutory limit. They reminded the Council that a loan of £I,OOO would be due on April 20,1900 ; and recommended that the Sinking Fund Commissioners be at once written to and asked to arrange their investments so that the sum would be available for paying the loan off on due date. The Works Committee recommended that the attention of the Tramway Company be drawn to the dangerous condition of the tramway rails, between Normanby and Hawthorn.—The General Committee recommended that an agreement be entered into with Mr J. L. Wilson to remove nightsoil, and that a reward be offered for a conviction against those destroying the seats at the tramway terminus should the offence be repeated. The reports were adopted.—A complaint as to the state of the road leading to Calverley was referred to tho inspector to report to the Works Committee, and a petition from the residents of Salwyn asking that something might be done to improve the drainage was referred to the Mayor, Crs Evans, Macandrew, Murray, Seoones, and the inspector to report to the Works Committee.
