The Auckland Chamber of Commerce I have seen M. Arnaud, inspector of French colonies, in regard to the Island trade with the French possessions in Oceania and the port of call of the steamer, ij. Arnaud said he was satisfied that Auckland was the best port of call and the best centre from which to develop the Island trade, and he would so report to the authorities at Tahiti and to the Ftench Government in Paris. A buried city like that of Fompeii is being excavated in Central America, at the foot of the volcano Agua. Pottery, fine glassware, jewels, flint instruments, and human skele* tons over 6ft long have been taken out at depths of 14fc to 18ft. It cannot be too well known that Slesinger’s Rheumatic Balsam is no quack remedy, it is an old and tried specific for rheumatism, sciatica etc.—[Adyt.] •
