Thus “ Silverspur ” in the • New Zealand Mail’; —“The trotting races that have hitherto disfigured the programmes of the Dunedin Metropolitan Racing Club are to be discontinued, a decision to that effect having been arrived at. The adoption of this course is a very wise one. Trotting is a distinctly separate sport; it has nothing in common with racing, and should be kept off metropolitan tracks altogether. Now that the Dunedin Jockey Club have cast these events from their racing sheets the hands of the Tahuna Club Committee will be materially strengthened, and they will be able to place a stronger case in favor of their application before the Colonial Secretary.”
