OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Committee of the Otago Cricket Association was held in Wain's Hotel on Friday evening, Mr A. C. Hanlon presiding. The Secretary (Mr W. H. Maclean) intimated that the sum of £ll 4a Gd had been collected towards the presentation of bats to the members of the Otago team who visited Christchurch last season and gave such a good account of themselves.—lt was decided that the secretary be given a free hand in procuring the bats, and that he arrange with the different men to call and select them, and to have them presented at the annual general meeting. With regard to the schools' trophy, it waß decided that, in accordance with a resolution passed at the last annual general meeting, the sum of £2 2s be expended in procuring a trophy to be awarded to the North-east Valley School team as winners of the competition for 1896-97. The secretary was instructed to confer with Mr Murray, the head-master, as to the form he would like the trophy to take, and to have it presented at the annual general meeting. In accordance with an offer made by Mr W, H. Skitch (to give a shield to be competed for by third-class teams, provided that the Association acted in like manner with regard to the juniors) it was resolved that Mr Gootch and the hon. secretary be given power to procure a challenge shield, and to have the names of previous winners inscribed thereon, the price not to exceed £lO, and that it be held by the winners for twelve months and be not won outright. Messrs Brittain and Ringer were appointed auditors. The date of the annual general meeting was fixed for Saturday, 25th September. It was decided that the secretary be given authority to sign all cheques in conjunction with Mr Hanlon. The secretary submitted a rough draft of the balance-sheet to date, which showed a small loss on the season's play. The appointment of Mr W. Maclean as secretary for the remainder of the term [vice Mr A. M'Donald, resigned) was confirmed. A letter from the Canterbury Association, asking that the date of the annual match, which is to take place at Christchurch this year, be fixed for the 15th January, 1898, on the return of the Canterbury team from their Northern tour, was again discuosed. The secretary intimated that he had written stating that the Committee would try to fall in with the request of the Canterbury Association. No definite decision was come to, and the matter was left over for further consideration.
