VICTORIA CHANNEL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—" Investigator " thinks I have been getting my " leg pulled " over the Waikare episode. But therein he errs. I have had my former information corroborated from another source, and do thsrefore give the truth, and nothing but the truth. He, on the contrary, does not tell the whole truth. If he prefers the phrase of trimming to that of lightening, I will grant him the choice of words, but, nevertheless, the Waikare had to be trimmed to ISft 3in for the Board's pilot, while the Board themselves raised a perfect howl because the. master of the Monowai declined bringing up his larger ship, drawing 19ft 3in, and in perfect darkness. The pilot did quite right in limiting the Waikare to 18ft 3n, but\he Board had no right to make the fuss they did over the Monowai.

Perhaps "Investigator" will inform "Common Sense" and others who are interested iu the welfare of Dunedin how much cargo was trimmed, and, if any, how much railed to Dunedin, from the Waikare. I heard the figures mentioned, but they were so largo that, I hesitate J.o quote them for fear of committing myself to something that was not quite the whole truth. He, however, can investigate for inc.— lam, etc.' Cum.mox Sense. Dunedin, August 11.
