OCEAN BEACH DOMAIN BOARD

A meeting of the Ocean Beach Domain Board, held last night, was attended by Messrs H, Gourley (chairman), A. C. Begg, J. H. Hancock, C. 1* isher, and F. Anderson. The Town Clerk of Caversham forwarded a letter from Mr F. J. Sullivan, who offered to provide a suitable boat, with oars, etc. to be stationed at St. Clair, provided the Caversham Council and the Board built a suitable shed and launching tram ; the boat to remain his property and be used by him for fishing purposes when not otherwise wanted by the Board or Council.—Consideration of the matter was deferred. Inspector Pardy wrote acknowledging the receipt of a letter from the Board relative to the destruction of fencing and marram grass on the Ocean Beach Domain, and stating that the constables at St. Clair and Anderson Bay had been instructed to pay particular attention to the matter.

Mr Morrison, M.H.R., wrote forwarding plans of the proposed wall at St. Clair which he had received, together with a report, from the public Works Department. He hoped that the Board would see their way to take immediate action in the matter as he would like to be in a position when the House met in September to inform the Government what the local bodies were prepared to subscribe for this important work, —The clerk was instructed to write thank" mg Mr Morrison for what he had done in the matter, and stating that the Board were not in a position to do anvthing at present in regard to it.

It was resolved that an appeal hs made to the various local bodies for a similar money contribution to that of last year and for the same purpose. It was decided to ask Messrs Taggart Stewart, and Brookes to act as honorary rangers for the Board.

The Sub-committee appointed at last meeting to consider the question of tree planting, as suggested by the honorary secretary of the Reserves Conservation Society, reported that they had selected a piece of ground adjacent to Tahuna Park which they thought suitable for experimental tree planting. The cost, was estimated to be £2O for trees, £2O for fencing and £ls for labor,—lt was decided to cali tor tenders for putting up a substantial seven barbed wire fence, and to consider the remainder of the report at next meeting The secretary was instructed to write to the Government calling attention to the matter of a fence at the Ocean Beach fort as one of urgency, as the Flat was considered in danger by the encroachment of the sea on' either side of the fort.

The bank book, whiqh was laid on the table, showed a credit balance of £46 5s 4d.
