UNIVERSITY DEBATING SOCIETY.

This sooiety held their fortnightly meeting IMb night, when there was a very large attendance both of rnembejs and friends. Mr O. M. Mouat, 8.A., LL.K, occupied the chair. A piano solo by Miss L. Fonwlok and a song by Mr P. B. Haggltfc evoked prolonged applause. The debate, which took the form of a parliamentary one, was opened by the Hon. the Minister of Justice (Mr A. Miller), who Introduced with an able speeoh a Bill to abolish trial ,by jury. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr W. ■35. Stewart, jun.) replied at Bome length, and a vigorous debate ensued, whioh was taken part in, by Messrs C. Hutton, 8.A., Borton, J. OJShea, 8.a., and Thomson. On a vote of the House being taken, it was found that the Opposition we ein a large majority. A vote of thanks to the Speaker concluded the meeting.
