THE PACIFIC CABLE.
REPORT OF THE COMMISSION.
[PHB PbXSS AfiSOOIATION.)
LONDON, January 13,
The report of the Pacific Cable Commission has been signed. It unanimously favors a State-owned cable, and adopts the route agreed upon by the Sydney Conference. Great Britain, Canada, and Australasia are each to contribute one-third of the cost. Themajority of the Commission believe the revenue prospects favorable, and advise that a survey be made and provision arranged for the ultimate duplication of the cable.
The route selected for reoommendation by the Conference at Sydney was from Canada to Fiji, and from Fiji to Norfolk Island, thence bifurcating to the nearest convenient landing places in the north of New Zealand and Moreton Bay respectively.
