ANNIVERSARY DAY AT AUCKLAND.

AUCKLAND, January 29,

Today, bciog the anniversary of the colony, is being observed as a close holiday. The chief feature is the regatta. The weather is splendid, but the wind is too light for the sailing races. Many thousands of people have gone to the water excursions and the trip 3by rail. The regatta shows a great falling off in tho amount of money subscribed for prizes, but the entries are very good. The horse races at Takapuna are also attracting a large attendance.
