FAMILY TROUBLE THROUGH A PIANO.

» In the Wellington Magistrate's Court a man was charged by his wife with having used threatening language to her. The complainant and her daughter stated that defendant was given to drink, and frequently broke the furniture of the house and threw things about. The defendant stated that the cause of dissension in a previously happy home was the introduction of a piano into the house on the hire system. The instrument, whioh was being purchased by the daughter out of her wages against the wish of the father, drew a number of young .men to the house who by their conduct so annoyed the defendant that he never went into the room where the hire-purchased piano reposed. These young men were ilways hinting that the defendant drank and playing practical jokes, which so irritated him that on one occasion he actually had two glasses of liquor. There was also a lodger in the house, a young girl, whose conduct, he said, contributed to make his life a burden. He traced all the quarrels to the introduction into his house of the instrument of melody. Mr Martin, S.M., bound the defendant over in his own recognisance, and ordered him to find one surety of £ls that he would keep the peace for six months.
