SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
THE V.R.C. MEETING,
MELBOURNE, October 24. Hova galloped a tremendous mile and fe-h&lf this morning, covering eleven furlongs inside oi 2min SSjec, the heavy broadside ■wind not helping him. He pulled up well. Delaware went a couple of miles in fine style, but not against the watch. Taranaki, under heavy punishment, was completely outpaced by Osculator towards the conclusion of two miles on the tan, the latter finishing like a lion and negotiating the middle mile in lmin Slsec. Experienced Flemington touts consider the performance * marvellously good one, completely settling Waterfall's prospect* in the Cup against Oseulator.
Derby betting is qnret. 500 to 50 against Delaware for the Cup was taken, 500 to 35 against Trenchant, 1,000 to SO Hova, 1,600 to 75 Devon, 2,000 to 40 each against Taranaki and Auraria.
A Napier telegram says that Mr Ormond's team, comprising North Atlantic, Solitaire, Daring, and Defiance (in charge of Stewart Waddell), and Aphony and The Plug (in charge of Ellingham) were shipped to Christchurch to-day.
