The first load of the new season's wheat has arrived in town. It is a fair sample and goes 651b to the bushel. Zimmerman, the cyclist, denies that he gave anyone authority to nominate hirn for the Austral wheel race, aud he will not compete at the meeting to-day. He covered a quarter of' a mile in 27$ sec yesterday. SYDNEY, October 24. The United Insurance Company have declared a dividend of 12| per cent.
There is a growing opinion among experts that the wreckage found on the Auckland Isles belongs to the French barque Marie Alice, which left Sydney for Antwerp with wool in February. The underwriters want the New Zealand Government to make fiirther search in order to establish the vessel's identification officially. The fire has been driven back to the boundary of Block XI., Broken Hill. Careful watch Is kept, and repressive measures are maintained. The fire still has a strong hold on Block XL; and there is danger of it spreading, as the smoke is still issuing and the ground subsiding extensively. Mrs Reynolds, who committed perjury on the second wai-rant, will appear on Friday with Dean and others to answer the charge of conspiracy.
