BRIEF MENTION.
Mr T. K. Sidey to-day received a largelysigned requisition the prayer of which is that he will stand again for the Gaversham mayoralty. Miss Mary Ralston, of the Lauder School, is recommended for the mistress-ship of the Manuka Greek School.
A petition, largely signed by members of the W.C.T.U., was presented by Canon Webb to the Anglican Synod at Napier urging the use of nnfermented wine at the communion. A friend of the Union had procured a bottle of a certain wine, and presented it to the Synod, so that its quality might be tested; and, although no definite decision was given, since then four Anglican churches have adopted its use.
The City Council will be asked to-night to choose a bathkeeper for Peliehet Bay from the following, who have been selected by the General CbmmitteeJ. Benn, F. Burton, F. E. Davies, J- Johnston, T. Knewstubbs, A. M'Kinnon, J. M ‘Leary, M. Scoble, and J. Frew.
