BRIEF MENTION.
Constable Creeks, of Napier, endeavored on Sunday night to arrest several larrikins who were drunk and creating a disturbance, when he was knocked down and kicked, and had his collar-bone broken. John Legeyt, charged with inflicting the injury, stands remanded for a week. Mesdames Sinclair and Rossini were charged yesterday at Wellington with ander* taking to tell fortunes. Mr Martin bound them over to come up for sentence when called npoD. The Brough and Boucicault Company brought their season at Auckland to a close on Monday night with a "bumper" house, which established a record attendance.
Efforts are being made in Brisbane to purchase the libraiy of the late Mr Justice Harding, and to form the nucleus of a free public library. Everywhere but Dunedin.
