NEGLECTIC OR ECLECTIC?

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —I . laughed very heartily over “ Nemo’s ” par re “ The neglectic ” in your Saturday’s edition. I fancied he was like a hen cackling over a glass egg, and I’ll tell yqii how I fancied so. The word I beard used in the court (I did not see “Nemo” there) was ** eclectic,” and not being familiar with the term I marked it down on my cuff, and on inquiring from Webster, of dictionary fame, found that it meant “To select—truth seeking.” He did not seem to be very familiar with “Nemo’s” pretty word. That was why I laughed «o heartily. I would not have taken any notice of the incident only that 1 imagine that an educator of the people should try to be a little more accurate before trying to be witty. .If “Nemo” was more eclectic we would not have so many spicy pars at the expense of citizens whom he knows cannot spare the time to contradict him. Hoping that “Nemo” will have the courtesy to apologise-I am, etc., Eclectic. Dunedin, August 2.
