M. Crisp! has stated that peace was preserved chiefly through the agency of the Triple Alliance. Ho feared that Africa would yield thn first spark that would kindle a European war. Italy possessed Eritrea and the Tigre Country on the Ked Sea littoral, and intended to remain there at all hazards.
