The Italian elections are proceeding quietly. Premier Orispi has been elected tor Rome, and his followers have already secured 300 seats. The Ministry are likely to have a large following. The editors of the Democratic journals in New York have resolved to resist the free and unlimited coinage of silver. A mob stormed the gaol at Denville, in Illinois, and effecting an entrance brought out and lynched two white men who were accused of assaulting women. The Marquis of Queensberry and his two sons, Lord Alfred Douglas and Lord Douglas of Hawick, were present at the close of the trial of Wilde and Taylor. The second son of the Ameer of Afghanistan, who is at present on a visit to England, is to be lavishly entertained by Royalties. In company with the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge, he was present at the ceremony, of trooping the colors, and expressed himself surprised aud delighted at what he had seen. He was afterwards introduced to the Princess of Wales, Duchess of York, and Duke of Saxe-Coburg. The steamer Khio collided in the English Channel with the steamer Duke of Buckingham, from Queensland to London. The latter vessel sustained damage to her insulating chamber, but the captain does not think her meat cargo has been injured. Argument before the Full Court at Sydney <»n the question of the legality of payment of members of the Legislative Assembly has commenced. The point set up was that the Legislative Assembly was not a continuous body, and the payment merely referred to the Assembly which passed the Bill. So far the trend of their Honors' remarks has been in the direction that the Assembly is a continuous institution, although its pertonnd may change. Argument is proceeding. Particulars have been received of brisk fighting between the French and a company of bandits on the frontier of French Guinea and Brazil. It appears that Lunair, captain < f a cjmpany of French marines, demanded under a flag of truce the release of the Frenchmen who had been taken prisoners by the baudits. While the negotiations were in progress the bandit chief shot Lunair dead, and his followers simultaneously fired on the marines. Severe fighting ensued, lasting for two hours, and ended iu the complete defeat of the outlaws. The Frenchmen had five murines killed and twenty wounded, while the bandits lost sixty of their number, besides having a large number wounded. The French afterwards burnt their village.
